With January almost over and February just days away, spring/summer 2023 is so close we can almost feel it through our many, many winter layers. If you’re excited about the new season, then you need to read on for all the spring-ready styles you can start wearing now. From the frothy fashion fun that will be inspiring your going-out looks, to the elevated basics you will turn to every day. Here is our full round-up of the SS23 fashion trends you need to know and where to buy them now.

Cargo Calling

You may well have noticed over the past few seasons that Cargo pants made something of an unexpected return to our lives. Well, now they are here, they have unfinished business. At Marine Serre, Miu Miu, Chanel, Fendi, LaQuan Smith, Isabel Marant, Coperni, and Louis Vuitton, there were classic and not-so-classic cargo pants, tailored cargo skirts, minis, and practical utility jackets. The whole gang is here, so if you invest in one thing for SS23, make sure it has pockets and plenty of them. There was also a more minimalist 00s utility aesthetic echoing through the trend for pared-back looks and elevated basics, so there really is a pocket of this trend for everyone.

Silver Screen

Colour is ever prevalent and spanning the rainbow again this season, but silver to stands out as a new way to shine for spring/summer 2023. Designers including Christopher Kane, Jil Sander, Simone Rocha, Gabriela Hearst, and Cecilie Bahnsen took a high-octane approach to glamour this season with molten metallics, and we have to say we have taken a shine to this trend too.

Sheer Layering & Lingerie Inspired Looks

Who needs coverage when you can simply twirl into a sheer wisp of pretty fabric and go about your day? Ok, maybe we will take the layers option. From this season’s most practical trend to fashion’s slightly more risque obsession with all things sheer and lingerie-inspired. Corsets are still big news in boudoir-inspired lace, or tougher fabrications, and lace-edged slips can be worn in all their sheer and feminine glory or paired with a utility jacket for this season’s new spin on grunge. And don’t miss the deconstructed lacy looks at Burberry, or billowing sheer maxi dresses at Nensi Dojaka. Layer light fabrics to cover your modesty, or try some big pants, à la Kendall Jenner if you’re feeling brave. Maxed Out Denim

The Y2K effect has had a serious impact on denim trends this spring, with low waistlines, denim accessories, and dirty washes showing up all over the shows. See KNWLS, Blumarine, Diesel, Masha Popova, Dion Lee, and Givenchy for inspiration. There were matchy-matchy outfits finished with denim knee-high boots, low waistlines with crop tops, and y2k-inspired washes and finishes. It’s also time to really lean into the relaxed denim vibe this season. Think of Kate strolling down the Bottega runway in her baggy (leather) jeans. the dark high-waisted and belted jeans at TIBI, and the all-encompassing denim at Givenchy. Whichever route you take, it’s time to dial up the denim.

Asymmetric Hems

Statement skirts are really having a moment this season, and one such way in which they are stealing the show is the resurgence of the asymmetric hemline. Made to move and billow around you, flash a little thigh, or even create a train effect, the asymmetric hemline comes in many guises this season. There were ruched y2k vibes at Blumarine, soft and draped at Loewe, lucid and billowing at Dries Van Noten, and subtle and deconstructed at Prada. Elevated Basics

The pared-back, low-key luxury aesthetic that have been a theme across the past few seasons are going nowhere thanks to designers such as The Row, Bottega Veneta, and Jil Sander. Last season the pared-back look had a decidedly 90s feel with low-slung waists, simple logo tanks, and a quiet colour palette. This season there was a similar 90s/00s aesthetic with shades of teal, navy, and camel thrown in. Oversized, loose tailoring is still key, as are tailored tube tops and dresses, and simple pencil skirts in all lengths, including to the knee as seen at Miu Miu. Holiday Prints

Think ombre-style sunsets at Ferragamo & Courrèges, beach scenes at JW Anderson, and lots of blurry digital prints evoking sunnier times. Plus of course, tie-dye. Is it even summer without tie-dye? 3D Floral Details

Go big or go home on the florals for SS23, with corsages and 3D flower details continuing to grow. See Magda Butrym, Roksanda, Collina Strada, Acne Studios, Blumarine, Bottega Veneta, and Loewe’s lustrous florals for inspiration. This pretty feature is going to show up everywhere this season, from the subtlest additions to dramatic details that take centre stage.

Biker Gang

Whether it’s motorcycles or motocross, just get ready to toughen up your leather game. See the moto-inspired leather looks at Chloe, Stella McCartney, GCDS, Louis Vuitton, Ottolinger, David Koma, and Gucci. Or look to Khaite, Prada, or Alexander McQueen’s sophisticated biker chicks if you see yourself as more of a classic motorcycle kind of gal. Give it a feminine twist by pairing your biker jacket with a flowy skirt, or try a moto-inspired look in denim.  Exposed chunky zips, distressed graphic tees, and biker-approved accessories all add to the look.

Armour Up

From metallic bra details to tough moulded bodices, fashion is armouring up this season. If you don’t see yourself in full heavy metals, a more wearable way to wear the trend comes in the form of slinky body chains and chainmail. See Stella McCartney, LaQuan Smith, JW Anderson, Burberry, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and Paco Rabanne for more metal moments.

Fashion Fun

Feathers, sequins, and froth are still making a case for full-throttle fashion fun. There were voluminous tulle creations at Christian Siriano, PatBo, and Molly Goddard, sequins at 16Arlington and Halpern, and even cute heart motifs at Victoria Beckham, Nensi Dojaka, and Acne Studios. There also ain’t no party like an 80s party this season. Get into the groove with accentuated shoulders and cinched waists, or try out the drop waist hemlines seen at Carolina Herrera and Gabriela Hearst. The bubble hem skirt made a return at Khaite, Ulla Johnson, and Proenza Schouler, plus off-the-shoulder action at Erdem and exaggerated bows at Richard Quinn. Just pick your player and don’t pack away your party outfits just yet. Or ever.

Ruched & Draped Siren Gowns

There were a LOT of fancy gowns giving major Hollywood siren moments on the runways this season. A common theme was ruched and draped goddess-like creations in maxi lengths, sometimes with cut-outs or sheer detailing, as seen at Acne Studios, Saint Laurent, Rick Owens, Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Loewe, Schiaparelli, and more. Consider a maxi length with some Grecian goddess-style draping for your next wedding guest look to get in on the action. You don’t have to be a Hollywood star to look like one.
