06 Aug Autumn/Winter 2024 Fashion Trends – 12 You Need to Know
It may be high summer now, but what goes up must eventually come down. And whilst I most certainly don’t want to wish away summer, I definitely need a little something in place to soften the blow once it’s over. A tropical holiday would be nice, but on a more realistic note, there’s always the fashion. Whilst I revel in the simplicity of the summer styling, there is something to be said for the fun to be had with the intricacies of the winter wardrobe. Yes, it’s time to talk Autumn/Winter 2024 fashion trends.
The chilly season provides the opportunity to play with layers, which for AW24 sees the return of the humble roll neck (not that it ever left my wardrobe…) and a renewed focus on the cardigan, with chunky, cropped and textured numbers offered up at many a show. Speaking of texture there is lots to play with for AW24. Starting with feathers and faux fur as seen at Erdem, 16Arlington and Alaia, and why not contrast it with some high shine or supple leather in an autumnal hue, as seen at Fendi, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and Gucci? Sexy sheer layers too are still going strong with designers coming up with new ways to wear gauzy fabrics in interesting ways. Then there are the skirts! So many good skirts. Where to even start?
Lucky for you, we have taken a deep dive into the Autumn/Winter 2024 trends to bring you these 12 key trends to try now (or at least soon…) and, importantly, where to buy them at every price point…
Autumn/Winter 2024 Fashion Trend 1 – Fancy Cardigans
If it’s not a roll neck this season, its a cardigan. From Gucci’s chunky cardigans with glittering fringe, to Molly Goddards textured chunky burgundy beauty, and Miu Miu’s neat cardigan jackets worn with knee length bubble hem skirts and boots, this knitwear staple is looking mighty fresh. The high street has luckily obliged us too, with many a dreamy offering already entering the new arrivals sections ready for autumn.
An item you will treasure forever.
We are not done with red.
Simone Rocha’s offerings are always oh so dreamy, including this sky blue embellished wool cardigan.
So chic.
So pretty.
This colour will liven up many a dreary day this autumn/winter.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 2 – Sheer
This season sheer is going nowhere. At Ludovic de Saint Sernin sheer skirts and dresses were topped with delicate florals, whilst at Eckhaus Latta silver satin mini slips showed through black sheer maxi overlay’s embroidered with sparkling embellishments. There were sheer white maxi gowns at Proenza Schouler, Khaite, and Gabriela Hearst, and at Tory Burch Emrata came down the runway in a black crocodile bodysuit under a sheer black embellished waist slip. Then there were completely sheer and sexy looks worn over big pants at Gucci and Moschino, as well as contrasted with fluffy shoes at Ferragamo. Sheer came with a side of whimsical, embellished, and ultra-feminine at Simone Rocha and Susan Fang. And if you want to keep the look a little cosier, embellished but sheer maxi skirts were worn with chunky knits at Rotate.
Chloe vibes.
This colour…
So pretty.
Reformation’s wearable number also comes in white.
The dreamiest of dresses.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 3 – Leather
Leather came in glossy finishes, and a myriad of interesting colours this season, not to mention applied to every corner of your autumn/winter wardrobe. In the form of outerwear, there was maxi trenches at Coach, and vintage-looking oversized leather peacoats and neat fitting biker jackets at Prada. Then there was sculpted bandeau maxi dresses at Gabriella Hearst, bright red leather complete with rivets at Ludovic de Saint Sernin and ladylike leather at Erdem in the form of a neat teal jacket and slim midi skirt set. The Zip up leather midi skirt, knee boots and tight-fitting turtle necks at Fendi and 16Arlington’s Teal and purple leather pants with contrasting fluffy shoes and knits will also top many a wishlist.
So good.
This supple suede blazer and shorts come in one of this seasons key shades…
Buy now and wear forever.
Oxblood reigns supreme this season.
There is something so chic about grey leather.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 4 – Roll Necks
Speaking of those tight fitting turtle necks, Fendi wasn’t the only designer who wanted us to keep our necks warm this winter. If you want to emulate some of the interesting layering seen across the runway, an unassuming roll neck might just become the lynchpin of your autumn/winter looks (if it isn’t already, that is.) Jaw grazing collars were seen layered under jackets and coats, paired with this seasons myriad skirt styles and on the collars of dresses and gowns at Alaia, Prada, Proenza Schouler, Khaite, Bottega Veneta, Sandy Liang and 16Arlington, to name but a few. The message is clear, the humble roll neck is the ultimate essential this winter.
The ultimate staple.
Make it extra soft in Merino.
Add a pop of colour.
This staple comes in 6 shades.
H&M’s premium selection jumper is chic in soft grey.
Add a little interest with this Dries Van Noten printed turtleneck top.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 5 – Skirts
Yet again skirts are a category you will want to get into this season. There were the amazing puffball hems at Marques Almeida and 16 Arlington, drop waists at Sandy Liang (and again at Marques Almeida), sheer floor grazing embellished maxis at Simone Rocha and Molly Goddard’s beautiful full tulle skirts paired with oversized knits in sumptuous berry and sorbet shades.
Midi skirts are also taking over, worn with knee boots and letterman jackets at Prada, as well as office-ready with neat cardigans and pointed satin shoes. The look was office ready too at Remain with sharp pleated pinstripe midi skirts and matching slim longline jackets worn with sleek knee boots. For proof midi skirts don’t have to be serious look to 16Arlington’s many fun options, from the metallic leather pleated midi skirt worn with second skin boots, to the sheer pleated printed midi and the silver tinsel midi skirts. Perfection.
Midi skirts, leather and shades of khaki are all big news for AW24 and this suede skirt is divine.
A chic way to do denim top-to-toe…
If you weren’t yet convinced by bubble skirts, you will be this season…
This chic linen pencil skirt is too good.
Leopard print is also still big news and Ganni is your go-to.
Drop waists are here to stay.
Made to shimmy…
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 6 – Oxblood
At Eckhaus Latta, Altuzarra, and Tommy Hilfiger, burgundy-coloured scarves, totes, and twinsets provided accents of this autumnal hue. At Khaite the dreamiest maxi leather trench coat went all in on oxblood, and at Erdem too, there was supple leather as well as dreamy draped satin in this luxe looking shade. Roksanda’s oversized belted tailoring, Ferragamo’s sheer maxi dress and matching long wool coat in claret, and Molly Goddard’s deep berry coloured tulle and looped knit cardigan provided more evidence this shade is going to be showing up all autumn/winter. If in doubt nab yourself a bag in this luxurious shade, like those seen at Bottega and Gucci.
So good with denim.
Slinky.
This slouchy and shiny bag will fit everything you need.
This will look so good with jeans.
These are a delight. See also also Reformations Bethany Ballet Flat.
Double up on trends.
One can dream.
Autumn/Winter 2024 Fashion Trend 7 – Boho 2.0
Blame Chloe, but boho frills, billowing chiffon blouses, and aviator sunglasses are leading the way to a 70s boho resurgence with a 00s IT girl feel this season. You remember the vibe…
So pretty.
Get into the 70s vibe.
Float into the new season.
Get the look in one swift, and tall, move.
If Chloe is out of your price range, head to H&M.
So dreamy.
Pair this flouncy maxi dress with knee high boots and get ready to stride into Autumn.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 7 – Leopard Print
Leopard print is going nowhere and it’s a trend needs no explanation. See Zimmerman’s billowing leopard print blouse and floor grazing baggy jeans or Christian Dior’s leopard print trench, roll neck and sheer tights look for further inspiration.
This dreamy dress from Reformation x Laura Harrier comes in sizes 18-28, 4-16 and petite.
This sheer chiffon blouse offers a new season take on the leopard look.
Perfection.
Double up on trends with these mesh pointed toe leopard print shoes. Don’ skip on these leopard print jeans either.
This drop waist dress is so good.
A leopard print coat is always a wise investment. If you were hankering after this Rixo number last year, maybe it’s time to invest this year?
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 8 – Pointy Toes
Pointed pumps have been the shoe of choice for a few seasons now (if its not a ballet flat, trainer, or biker boot, that is…) and AW24 is no different. Points strutted out paired with everything from long trousers, to floor sweeping coats and ladylike skirts. Prada’s satin point-toe flats in jewel tones will be highly coveted, whilst pumps came embellished with feathers, florals and sparkle at Erdem, Marques Almeida and Gucci, and paired with tonal red tights at The Row. For extra fashion points pair your points with socks as seen at many a show. At Tory Burch sheer grey knee socks and pointy heels were worn with full-skirted knee-length dresses, at Anna Sui it was preppy argyle socks and slingbacks, and Baum und Pferdgarten paired classic white socks with pumps.
These shoes also in black, but they are so dreamy in oxblood.
An alternative to your black ballet flats.
Tick off more trends than one in these studded pointed mules.
Update your ballet flats with a point toe this season and in elegant white.
Sassy.
Mesh shoes are going nowhere.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 9 – Fringe & Feathers
Expect a little drama this season with a fair share of designers going all in on fringe and feathers. At Alaia long sweeping fringe formed slinky tops and dresses alongside positively pillowy fluffy maxi coats. Full on fluffy outerwear was another theme at Erdem, alongside feathered cardigans, matching skirts and fluffy shoes, and there were fluffy trims too at Prada and Proenza Schouler. Feathered details came in scarf form at 16Arlington, and on dramatic tops and dresses at David Koma. Elsewhere textured knits such as those seen at Molly Goddard provided a different take on the texture trend and Coach sent fringed trimmed suede jackets down the runway with boots and hoodies. At Ferragamo feathers topped slinky dresses with dropped waists and statement fluffy shoes provided contrast to sleek sheer looks.
Dip a toe in the fringe trend with this ecru oversized denim shirt.
Prada’s playful runway skirt incorporates multiple trends.
This textured fringed dream dress is a way to update your black dress rotation.
This vintage look blouse will bring a little glamour to your evening look.
This La Double J top is so fun.
Add a little fun to your knitwear game.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 10 – Double Triple Denim
Full denim looks are almost De Rigueur on the Autumn/Winter catwalks these days, so this is a concept we should be comfortable with. Designers played with double doses of denim yet again this season and we aren’t complaining since denim makes up a significant part of our daily wardrobes. Hell, why not even throw in a 3rd piece of denim like Stine Goya who presented a 3-piece denim look consisting of belted jacket and knee length denim skirt over long straight leg jeans. Gestuz 70s style Canadian tuxedo, Moschino’s slouchy double denim, and Marque’ Almeida’s Ombre raw edged double denim also provide further denim flavoured inspiration.
Go all in on denim at Aligne.
Aligne’s box pleat jean and Suzie denim top are an elevated way to do denim.
The knee length denim skirt is also such a winner for this season.
This loose v-neck denim shirt and wide leg denim trousers combo are looking so good for summer and beyond…
So smart. This COS raw denim jacket and raw denim trousers are another elevated set.
Grey denim is so good for transitional seasons. This boxy denim jacket and denim maxi are so good with mesh ballet flats now and add loafers or trainers later.
Another winner form & Other Stories, belt this oversized jacket over this denim mini skirt and add boots and layers as we head into autumn/winter.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 11 – Corporate Coded
Designers want you to get serious yet again this season, with new ways with suiting making corporate coded style ever more appealing. Feminine skirt suits are having a moment (see Fendi and Prada for inspiration…), as well as sculpted silhouettes in tailoring, which the high street has fully picked up on this season (see Aligne and & Other Stories). As you can see below, these looks are certainly not just for the office too…
The Daphne blazer you know and love but now with a scoop neckline…
Pinstripes mean business.
Aligne’s Quinn waistcoat is also so gorgeous.
Get into the longer shorts trend with these tailored bermuda shorts and add the coordinating loose waistcoat for an elevated look.
Pencil skirts are going strong this season, this striped version looks so flattering.
& Other Stories designer look blazer and button mini skirt are a winning set.
Autumn/Winter Fashion 2024 Trend 12 – Bold Trenches
Trench coats are the staple of any good transitional wardrobe but this season they just got more interesting. They came in autumnal shades of leather at Khaite and Gucci, with Burgundy and olive green maxi coats strutting down the runway, and then there was the delicious chocolate brown belted slouchy leather at Ludovic de Saint Sernin and high shine vinyl at Tory Burch. Tom Ford sent a see through cream mac down the runway, whilst at Carolina Herrera there was a total check look incorporating a dreamy maxi trench coat and luscious leopard at Dior.
You can always count on Aligne for amazing trench coats.
If you want to give triple denim a go (or just a pop of denim…), check out The Frankie Shops long denim trench coat. Alternatively this Aligne denim trench coat is also dreamy.
So gorgeous with dark denim.
Jakke’s patent trench coat is a head-turner in one of this season’s key shades.
Still in love with this Arket short leather trench coat and leather bermuda shorts.
Such a great versatile option.
If you have some money to spare, Bottega Veneta’s leather trimmed trench is the dream investment.
