24 Oct The Coat Trends to Take You Through AW22 And Beyond
FIND YOUR PERFECT COAT MATCH WITH OUR ROUND UP OF ALL THE BEST STYLES TO TAKE YOU THROUGH THIS AUTUMN/WINTER AND BEYOND
Shorter days, less fun weather, and colder temperatures mean winter isn’t always the most hotly anticipated time of year. But aside from Christmas cheer and the joys of a fresh New Year, there is always the joy of delving into your coat collection and wrapping up warm in something fabulous. Aside from the comfort a great coat can provide against the winter chill, it also has the ability to completely lift your entire outfit. Even your sweats can look chic with the right coat thrown over the top. The AW22 collections were full of dramatic maxi length coats, serious amounts of faux fur and texture, and a whole lot of leather. But seeing as your coat will get some serious wear, it’s not just about trends. Aside from keeping your warm, your coat needs to go with everything in your wardrobe (ish) and be something you will love for seasons to come. Whether you enjoy cosying up in an oversized swathe of something soft, a snappy and chic tailored coat, or cheering up a gloomy day in bright colours, your winter coat is arguably the most important puzzle piece of your autumn/winter wardrobe. Luckily, we have managed to round-up some of the best buys for this season and many more to come.

Faking it
Though faux fur has been popular for a few seasons, it was seriously prevalent for AW22. Coming in a whole host of fun colours at Coperni and 16Arlington, textured at Stella McCartney and Chloe, and classic and all-encompassing at Saint Laurent, designers got creative with faux-fur this season. If you have so far resisted the lure of a comforting faux fur coat, this might be the season that tempts you.
This neutral but unusual dark grey colour looks so chic on this faux fur belted coat from Proenza Schouler White Label.
A brightly coloured faux fur might not be the most timeless option for everyone, but if you’re not afraid of brights, this amazing cobalt blue option might be the one for you.

Animal print and in particular classic leopard, was another big AW22 trend, especially for outerwear. This Rixo leopard print faux fur coat is so classic and so cool.
The grey colour of this fluffy coat makes it look far pricier than it is.
Short Coats
Though maxi coats are having a major moment, there are plenty of shorter options showing up this season too. A slightly more transitional approach to outerwear, shorter coats certainly have their appeal for the throw-on-and-go factor. Cropped silhouettes might not be as warm, but they pair really well with this season’s baggier trouser trends and also allow you to showcase new season knee-high boots to the maximum. Plus they are a little more transitional, so you can get more wear out of these shorter jackets on the other side of winter.

Leather and Shearling Coats
Leather is big news this autumn/winter, and a leather trench is a perfect choice for layering up when it’s cold but not too cold. If you haven’t already invested in a trusty leather trench in previous seasons, AW22’s iterations may finally tempt you. And as you won’t have failed to notice shearling jackets are also having a major moment, which is handy because they are incredibly cosy. There are lots of great faux options around or try resale sites for a vintage shearling gem.
