5 Way’s To Work Y2K Glam Into Your NYE Look

TIME TO PARTY LIKE IT MIGHT BE YOUR LAST AND LOOK FABULOUS DOING IT

Remember when it was 1999 and there was some kind of potential millennium bug apocalypse on the horizon? If you don’t, then maybe you were too young and therefore possibly a large part of the reason we find ourselves writing a Y2K inspired post. I can’t say I fully understood what the Y2K bug was at the time, but according to wikipedia, something to do with data. Which is why I probably didn’t understand and by the way, turns out computer programmers saved us from the impending computer induced apocalypse. So in hindsight, it wasn’t anything requiring us to wear “futuristic” silver outfits and get drunk at illicit house party’s. But I was a teenager and life was confusing. So barbie pink sequin hanky tops, rhinestone embellished accessories and silver metallic flare and crop top combos (shout out to my sister, I went for a silver metallic bandeau), were the order of the day. Along with a share size bottle of white lightening cider.

Now thanks to nostalgic Gen Zers, we can hark back to it all again. Frankly, given the year we have had, 1999 is seeming like some pretty sweet NYE inspiration for nostalgic looks in which to party like you might never party again. Which is btw, how we party now. Seeing as we have been here before and so recently as well, it’s a trend that is easy to pick up on the pre loved market. That is, if you haven’t purged all traces of 00’s style from your life and can’t shop your own archives. Below you will find our pick of the best looks for the party of your life, or just looking really good whilst chilling at home with a Prosecco. Whatever floats your boat.

1. SILVER

Remember we were living in a time where the internet was kind of new and we were about to enter a whole new millennium. So things were feeling pretty space age. I was just waiting for hoverboards to be introduced any minute. Plus the Matrix had just been released, so think futuristic vibes mixed with post apocalyptic warehouse party and you are working the look.

2. BARBIE BRIGHTS & BABY HUES

Ultra girly brights (preferably hot pink, but any colour you could imagine barbie in) and saccharine shades (again preferably pink or lilac) were all the rage. If you weren’t into pink or lilac, turquoise was a hit, as was a baby shade of anything. They just go so well with silver and rhinestones ok.

3. EMBELLISHMENT

Crystals were classy and they adorned anything and everything, from your baguette bag to your stonewash denim and your heels peeping from under them. Beads, sequins, feathers and fluff followed closely behind. The charity shops are a treasure trove for beaded and embellished finds in the lead up to Christmas, so make sure you have a dig if you are on the hunt for something shiny.

4. PARTY TOP’S

Jeans and a nice top was the formula of our lives. If it wasn’t your stretchy black flares and a nice top. Either way, It was all about a statement making top. Be it chainmail, glittery mesh, bandeau or spaghetti straps, this is your one stop shop to low-key glamour. A cute top is so easy to rewear anytime too.

5. OTT ACCESSORIES

Kitsch accessories were an ideal finisher to top off any look and things are not looking so different now. Pop in a Gucci hair slide or grab a fluffy bag and you are good to go. If kitsch is not your thing, stick with chainmail and embellishment for a sleeker touch.
