29 Jan 7 Colours You Need to Start Pairing With Brown in 2024
Brown is trending hard for 2024, and this rich colour certainly has a luxe edge to it. But what colours go with brown clothes exactly? As a devotee of the versatility of black, the introduction of other neutrals into my wardrobe can cause excessive confusion. But seeing as the neutrals du jour, grey and brown are doing overtime on my Instagram feed, I have taken a deep dive into the colours that will pair nicely for the season ahead. And it turns out the answer to the question what colours go with brown clothes, is a whole lot more than I thought.
As we have already discussed brown coats are trending as an alternative to classic camel or black outerwear this season, but there is a whole world of ways to wear this transeasonal hue. If you’re looking for a new way to wear red, look to warm brown as a less harsh alternative to black. Or what to wear with spring 2024’s trending colours, such as butter yellow, or powder blue? Brown is your answer. So if you’re looking for an alternative to your all black ensembles or a new go-to neutral for spring, it turns out brown can be just as versatile as black and rather warm and luxurious looking to boot. Here are 7 colours you need to start pairing with brown in 2024
What colours go with brown – Brown + Red
If you find black and red a little jarring then pair the pop of the season with warm brown instead for a more subtle and very chic look. If fire hydrant red is too far out of your comfort zone, try a touch of burgundy for a more subtle take.
Divine.
If you’re looking for the perfect furry coat to complete your mob wife aesthetic, look no further… Also incredible paired with me + Em’s red wide-leg trousers and red cashmere knit.
Pair your brown accessories with trending red or grey wardrobe staples, like Arket’s red merino top and grey trousers.
If you ever needed convincing to invest in Rixo’s dreamy suede Milly patchwork coat, this season it is really popping with the trending colours. Note to self, teal and chocolate also make a rather luxe pairing.
If you’re not in for top-to-toe red pair this with some dark brown cord or denim trousers or a preppy A-line mini skirt.
So dreamy. Pair Savette’s burgundy Symmetry Pochette bag with a dark brown coat for a delicious combination.
Brown + Black
Like black and navy, black and brown were once deemed a no-no pairing, but oh how the times have changed. Throw caution to the wind and see the below yummy combos for proof that brown and black make a dreamy pairing. If you need any more inspo, look to fashions (and mob wives…) favourite animal print, eternally chic leopard print, for definitive evidence that black and brown are a timeless pairing.

What colours go with brown – Brown + Peach/Yellow
If you want to give Pantone’s colour of the year a whirl, then earthy brown is a good way to ground this unexpected shade. Look to Acne Studios and Bottega Veneta for inspiration who paired peach with burgundy (close enough…) and brown. If peach isn’t your bag trending butter yellow also makes a nice soft alternative and is going nowhere in SS24. Think of these shades as a modern way to lift brown hues without hitting up the more obvious (but also very timeless) ‘tonal’ look via beiges and creams.
This butter yellow knit maxi dress looks so good with dark brown suede accessories. It would also look fabulous under a brown leather trench for more wintry days.
If you’re worried about wearing peach right next to your skin, a white t-shirt beneath is a good layering trick. There is also a relaxed knit jumper in this peach shade if you’re sorted for cardigans.
Khaite’s chic butter-yellow blazer would look great with brown leather or silk.
